BCBSNE is happy to offer four work designations for our Omaha area employees: 100% in-office, Hybrid – 3 days in office, Hybrid – 2 days in office, 100% remote. If choosing to work remote, this role can be located in one of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

This role is responsible for identifying and pricing group health risks, while providing analysis, support, and reports for senior underwriters. This position will be focused on ensuring processes exist and are consistent for analyzing group health risks, past and emerging claims experience, and their impact on corporate goals.

What you'll do:

• Assist with streamlining the processes and tools between actuarial and underwriting to ensure consistent and sound practices.

• Utilize experience with underwriting and actuarial work to support senior underwriters in developing risk management tools, streamlined processes, and comprehensive reports.

• Support senior underwriters on complex fully insured and association business.

• As assigned complete small and medium sized group quotes and renewals, focusing on those groups with lesser complexity and fully insured financing arrangements.

• Learn the fundamentals of health insurance, risk evaluation and management

• Lead and partner on various projects between actuarial and underwriting groups as needed to document and streamline reporting and processes.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, actuarial science, or business and 2 years previous experience in an underwriting, actuarial, or business analytics role.
  2. The ability to organize and prioritize a high volume of work in order to meet renewal and new business deadlines.
  3. Competency in MS Office products, especially Excel.

The strongest candidates for this position will also possess:

  • Experience in a group health underwriting environment, with a thorough understanding of alternative financing arrangements.
  • Experience with data queries, SQL, VBA, MS Access, and advanced uses of Excel
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for this requirement.
  • The ability to meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments.
  • The ability to work well in a team environment, and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers.
