BCBSNE is happy to offer four work designations for our Omaha area employees: 100% in-office, Hybrid – 3 days in office, Hybrid – 2 days in office, 100% remote. If choosing to work remote, this role can be located in one of the following states: Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Pennsylvania, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.

This position is accountable for providing a data science skillset to the Business Analytics team. They must be familiar with healthcare data and use data analytics and best practices to effectively build strategies and solutions that serve current and future needs, with little to no supervision. Responsibilities include providing expertise in developing and implementing healthcare data analytics; developing a deep understanding of healthcare data; executing basic to mid-complex solutions using Analytics, Data Science and ETL tools; and developing a mature BI environment to empower people to answer existing and new questions in a fast and iterative manner.

Job Description:

  • Provide an experienced data science skillset to the Business Analytics team in proactively researching, decision-making, automation and implementation of business intelligence and analytics with little to no supervision. This includes evaluating redundancies and complexities within the data.
  • Fully establish partnerships with all levels of business users to understand their business requirements and translate those business needs into data science or analytic solutions across the Enterprise.
  • Is also able to present data and findings to a variety of audiences.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts, data governance coordinators, data stewards and data engineers to develop models and advanced analytics for the enterprise.
  • Support and enhance existing models and advanced analytics.
  • Familiar with data science techniques. Able to peer review work.
  • Can suggest relevant data science approaches to meet business and strategic objectives.
  • Conduct research around best practices. Monitor industry activities involving data science and analytics, participating in special projects as needed.
  • Maintain and continue to develop a solid working knowledge of technological advances. Keep leadership informed of external trends and issues that may impact the business and be fully proficient in Business Analytics systems.

To be considered for this position, you must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in data science, mathematics, computer sciences, statistics, risk management, economics, engineering, or related quantitative or analytics field.
  • 3 years of experience developing in support of mature or maturing BI, Data Science or Analytics environment (Analytic and Data Mining environments).
  • Demonstrated experience consulting and influencing decisions using sound judgment and data analysis to effectively drive positive business outcomes and resolve complex problems.

The strongest candidates for this position will also possess:

  • 3 years of experience working with data analysis, data modeling and data mining of complex raw data.
  • Master’s degree in mathematics, computer sciences, statistics, risk management, economics, engineering, or related quantitative or analytics field.
  • Experience with predictive modeling and data science methodologies such as Logistic Regression, Linear/Non-Linear Regression, Clustering, Classification Models, Time Series Analysis models, etc
  • Experience with SQL database management, query analysis and data interfacing.
  • Experience with Big Data/Data Science tools like R, Python, Spark, etc.
  • Experience with Data Visualization tools/toolkits like Power BI and Tableau.
  • Expertise/experience with Agile project delivery methodology for software development is preferred.
  • Experience with and knowledge of the healthcare delivery system and the health insurance industry is preferred.
  • Understanding of medical coding systems (CPT, ICD-9, DRG, etc.) is preferred.
