Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a Partner of Choice for the Nebraska University System. Our Interns work a hybrid schedule and spend some days working on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village.  Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from June 3, 2024 – August 2, 2024. 

The actuarial intern will be introduced to fundamental health insurance and actuarial concepts by assisting actuarial staff with projects such as trend analysis, health insurance pricing, financial and block management. 

What you will do: 

  • Macro Programming and Database Querying Skills – interns will learn or enhance their skills at SQL, VBA, RStudio, Excel and other Microsoft Office applications 
  • Data Visualization and Presentation Skills – interns will gather data through methods described above and compile into a meaningful format for use by decision-making staff and management 
  • Interdepartmental decision-making processes – interns will be exposed to decision-making processes between the actuarial department and other areas of the company such as product development, legal, underwriting, and accounting/finance 
  • Industry Knowledge – interns will learn about health insurance pricing, regulation, benefits, etc. 

 To be considered for this position you must have: 

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • The ability to meet or exceed the attendance and timeliness requirements of their departments 
  • The ability to work well in a team environment, and be capable of building and maintaining positive relationships with other staff, departments, and customers 

 The Strongest candidate will also possess: 

  • At least one completed exam from the Society of Actuaries
