Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a Partner of Choice for the Nebraska University System. Our Interns work on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village 3 three days per week and will have the option to work remotely the remaining two days. Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from June 3, 2024 – August 2, 2024.
Our Information Services teams work with new technologies to design and implement highly scalable, complex integrations that improve usability and maximize performance. We are focused on collaborating with our internal and external customers – serving as trusted partners who deliver high-quality, effective solutions.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NE is looking for enthusiastic students with ambition and a passion for technology. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in software development and Agile best practices in a fun and rewarding environment.
What you'll do:
All Cyber interns will participate in a simulated security incident as a part of their capstone. The event is a week-long attack that students will be tested in their knowledge of SEIM, Firewall, Vulnerability management, patch management, and communication skills during a security incident. After the event, all interns will be asked to simulate the attacks within our hack lab.
Leading up to the event, the security intern will be aligned with one of the following areas.
Security Operations
- Cyber defense operations team serves as the first line of defense against cyber-attacks by monitoring for and analyzing potential threats and vulnerabilities within Blue Cross Blue Shield’s Network
- Monitoring Alerts and logs within Microsoft Sentinel to determine potential threats and attacks.
- Actively scan and report on vulnerabilities within the environment
- Work with our threat intel team to understand real world threats and how they could affect our environment.
Identity and Access Management
- Identity and access management teams build and support our enterprise authentication.
- Support access management solutions along with providing day to day support.
- Identify issues within the user lifecycle management and provide solutions and suggestions to the team.
- Update any provisioning documentation that might be out of date.
Security Engineering
- Support the company goals in moving to cloud and Zero Trust initiatives.
- Work in Proofpoint and Palo Alto supporting day to day activities.
- Enhance BCBSNE hack lab starting to build out king of the hill activities.
Application Security
- Application vulnerability scanning utilizing internal and external scanning tools.
- Report out status of all open vulnerabilities within the environment.
- Work with application developers and related teams around remediation efforts when a vulnerability is found.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- High School diploma required
- Currently pursuing a college degree program in Cyber Security, Security Operations, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, MIS / CIS, or a similar area of study
- Basic comprehension of Key Cyber Security Principles
- Basic Experience with Cyber Security Tools (Wireshark, Penetration Testing Tools, etc.)
- Basic comprehension of Network Design
- Cloud Knowledge (Azure, AWS, MS Office 365, etc.)
- Automation Skills (Python, Shell, PowerShell, etc.)
- Basic understanding of coding languages (JAVA, C#, C++, etc)
- Strong self-starter with above average problem solving and communication skills
