Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska is a Partner of Choice for the Nebraska University System. Our Interns work on-site at our Omaha office located in Aksarben Village 3 three days per week and will have the option to work remotely the remaining two days. Therefore, you will need to live within commuting distance from June 3, 2024 – August 2, 2024.
Our Information Services teams work with various tools and languages such as Azure, AI/ChatGPT, PowerApps, RPA, C#, SQL, JavaScript, Angular, Python, HTML/CSS, Microsoft Visual Studio, JSON, XML, relational and non-relational databases to design and implement highly scalable, complex integrations that improve usability and maximize performance.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of NE is looking for enthusiastic students with ambition and a passion for technology and problem solving. This is a great opportunity to get hands-on experience in software development and Agile best practices in a fun and rewarding environment.
What you'll do:
- Coding and Development: You'll be working closely with a development team to write, test, and maintain code. This could include building new features, fixing bugs, and improving the overall functionality of software applications.
- Learning and Training: You'll have the chance to participate in training sessions, workshops, and presentations to enhance your technical skills and broaden your understanding of software development practices.
- Collaboration: You'll collaborate with other developers, project managers, and stakeholders to understand requirements, discuss technical solutions, and ensure the software aligns with the desired outcomes.
- Code Reviews: You'll review your colleagues' code for quality, consistency, and adherence to coding standards, and they'll do the same for your code.
- Agile Practices: You will participate in agile ceremonies such as daily stand-up meetings, sprint planning sessions, and retrospectives to ensure the team is on track and continuously improving.
- Problem Solving: You'll have the opportunity to enhance your problem-solving skills by addressing technical challenges that arise during development.
- Professional Development: In addition to technical skills, internships provide a chance to develop soft skills like communication, teamwork, time management, and adaptability.
- Innovation and Creativity: Depending on the project, you might have the opportunity to propose innovative solutions, experiment with new technologies, or suggest improvements to existing systems.
- Mentorship: You will receive guidance and mentorship from experienced developers who can help you navigate challenges, provide feedback on your work, and offer career advice.
- Capstone project: You will complete a final project that could concentrate on topics like creating efficiencies by using automation or gathering customer feedback to address issues and provide better support to improve the user experience within our customer portals.
To be considered for this position you must have:
- High School diploma required
- Current student pursuing a college degree in software engineering, computer science, or related engineering major
- Intellectual curiosity and willingness to learn
- Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively
- Experience in one or more of the following technologies: cloud computing, artificial intelligence, low-code development, robotic process automation, or web development
